Top Beauty Tips for Summer

When planning events and activities with friends this summer – attending festivals, spending the day at the beach, or going on holiday – here are a few summer beauty tips to enhance your natural beauty.

Use more suntan lotion

Even when relaxing in your garden you will still get sun exposure that’s more intense due to the summer heat, so consider wearing a facial lotion with SPF protection.

Have suntan lotion in your bag ready for those hot summer days – on the beach or meeting friends in the park.

A product with an SPF rating of 30 will block out the most ultraviolet (UV) rays, so use SPF 50 or higher to protect your skin when sun bathing. SPF number tells you how long you can stay in the sun without getting burned. So an SPF of 15 means that you can be in the sun for fifteen times longer without burning than you’d be able to without sunscreen. However, sun tan lotions can wear off quickly if you come into contact with water. So, re-apply often and take breaks from direct sunlight.

Exfoliate

Our face is exposed every day to car fumes, cleaning products, the wind and the sun, or time in a chlorine pool. Extended exposure can cause the skin to flake. Invest in a face scrub on a weekly basis to exfoliate dead skin cells. Reinvigorate your skin with natural lotions to bring that radiance back to your skin.

Gentle facial exfoliation will help keep your skin free of clogged pores and enable easier makeup application. Beware that exfoliation reveals new, sensitive skin that could be more prone to burning in the sun. Book a Facial with us today.

Keep Drinking Water

Part of keeping our skin in good condition requires us to stay hydrated.  Without hydration our skin will become dry and uncomfortable – so we need to drink regularly to keep our cells healthy.

As well as consuming water there are other ways to hydrate.  Eat ice lollies and water-based vegetables like cucumbers.  These will help your skin to retain its glow.

Stay Moisturised

Maintain a moisturising routine to keep up your complexion.  As your skin is affected by pollution it is important to keep it moisturised. So apply a moisturiser to protect it from summer including intense sun and chlorine.

Remember to moisturise after you have bathed.  Use a body wash that hydrates – our pores are open and susceptible to taking in moisture.

Facial

Waxing

Parts of your body are more sensitive and prone to irritation, so waxing off layers of dead skin cells and then exposing it to strong sunlight can lead to burns.   So wax a period of time before you hit the beach. Book a waxing session now.

Swimming and Your Hair

Swimming is a fun summer activity but it can damage your hair. Your hair may suffer breakages, feel friend or become discoloured.  Use a shampoo that includes ingredients to remove the chlorine deposits and moisturise your scalp.

Keep your hair wet.  Before going into the pool, wet your hair. This saturates the cuticles with water so that less chemicals can enter and damage your hair.
